top rookie for Ducks Missy Coe added to her award list Thursday when the former North Medford High all-state softball player was named rookie of the year for the University of Oregon. Earlier, Coe was one of three frosh on the All-Pac-10 first team. Coe led Oregon in hitting with a .362 batting average and set two Oregon single-season records and tied another. Coe set marks for hits (79) and doubles (18) and tied the record for runs (49). Also, her 10 home runs and 35 RBIs ranked third on the squad. Another Rogue Valley product, Josey Russell of Eagle Point, was named the team's most inspirational player. Russell played in 25 games, starting 10, and batted .224 with 11 hits, seven runs and seven RBIs. Senior utility player Katie Mackey of Red Bluff, Calif., was picked as the Ducks' most valuable player, while junior Andrea Gustafson of Corvallis was chosen most improved. |
