Barbershop singers wanted

The Valley View chapter of Sweet Adelines International invites women singers to an open house and rehearsal planned for 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at the Rogue Valley Christian Church, 1440 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford.

The open house theme is, "Hooray for Barbershop."

Refreshments will be served, and no singing experience is required.

Sweet Adelines promotes barbershop singing and showmanship.

 

Injured racer getting better

A drag racer has continued to improve after his car crashed at the Southern Oregon Dragway on Saturday.

David Reed of Sutherlin was in fair condition Monday at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Reed was injured in a practice run at the drag strip. Witnesses said his car went sideways and then rolled, landing in a berm near the track.

 

Butte Falls readies for Fourth

BUTTE FALLS -- The community is preparing for its Fourth of July celebration, called "It's a Grand Old Flag."

Entry forms for the 1 p.m. parade and registration for booths are available at City Hall. Call 865-3262 for information.

All forms must be returned by Wednesday, June 30.

 

GED students' graduations set

More than 500 students who have completed the General Education Development program (GED) through Rogue Community College will receive certificates at graduation ceremonies in Jackson and Josephine counties.

RCC president Harvey Bennett will deliver the keynote speech at both ceremonies.

In Jackson County, the ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford.

The Josephine County ceremony gets under way at 10 a.m. Saturday in the RCC Concert Bowl on the Redwood Campus.

 

Register for RCC programs

Fall registration is now under way for Rogue Community College's Moving On and Bright Futures programs.

These programs offer students, such as displaced homemakers and single parents, assistance in gaining self-sufficiency.

Instructors help students develop realistic goals and training plans. Some assistance for child care, transportation, and financial aid is available. Call Moving on at the Redwood Campus, 956-7323; or Bright Futures at Riverside Center, 774-1004, ext. 1214.
