win behind Robbins
GRANTS PASS -- Megan Robbins has been the Crater
Comets' impact player this season.
The 5-foot-9 senior wing made her presence felt again Friday as Crater posted a 56-38 Southern Oregon Conference girls' basketball victory over Grants Pass at Heater-Newman Memorial Gym. Robbins was held to four points in the opening half, but netted nine after intermission to notch game-high scoring honors. "Robbins made the difference in the second half," Grants Pass coach Shaun Gross said. "They're so well-rounded that you can't key in on any one player." Grants Pass, winless in SOC action, made it interesting by outscoring the Comets 10-1 to end the half. The Cavers (2-11, 0-4 SOC) scored on their final five possessions, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer just past the midcourt stripe by Danae Thomason, to cut the Comets' margin to 24-22. "Their defense picked it up a notch in the second half," said Gross. "Crater is young, but they have a lot of threats." Grants Pass had 26 turnovers in the contest, including 16 in the second half. "We had about three turnovers where if we would have caught the ball or didn't travel we would have had layins," said Gross. "Instead, they end up scoring." Thomason and Kaci Williams scored nine each for the Cavers. Crater (7-7, 1-3) edged the Cavers in rebounding, 29-28.
