Zepha Flowers-Jacobs
Zepha Flowers-Jacobs, 86, of Medford, died Monday
(May 4, 1998) at her home. Arrangements will be announced by Abbey Funeral, Medford.
Bette Hampton-Martin
Bette D. Hampton-Martin, 78, of Medford, died
Tuesday (May 5, 1998) at her home. Arrangements will be announced by Litwiller-Simonsen
Funeral Home, Ashland.
Mildred Grossi
Mildred Grossi, 94, of Central Point, died Saturday
(May 2, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.
She was born Mildred Correnti on Aug. 8, 1903, in Misilmeri, Italy.
On Oct. 18, 1924, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., she married Domenick Grossi, who preceded her
in death.
Mrs. Grossi moved to Central Point in 1996 from California.
Survivors include two sons, Alex, Medford, and Anthony, in Hawaii; two sisters, Marie
Coppola, Newburgh, N.Y., and Frances Pellicco, Mount Vernon; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
Homer L. Sechler
The memorial service for Homer L. Sechler will be at
1 p.m. Friday in the Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford. The Rev. Kelly Vandehey of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Medford, will officiate.
Mr. Sechler, 85, of Medford, died Monday (May 4, 1998) at his home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1912, in Salisbury, Pa.
On Dec. 27, 1934, in Colorado, he married Margaret Lamping, who died in 1983.
They lived in Klamath Falls for 15 years before moving to the Rogue Valley in 1952.
Mr. Sechler owned and operated the Arco/Richfield gas station in Central Point. He also
worked for various car dealerships, including Stevens Datsun and Roots Motors, Inc.,
retiring from Bob Frink Datsun in Medford.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, the Medford Elks and Moose lodges, and the IOOF
in Klamath Falls. He was an avid gardener and fisherman and enjoyed garage sales,
tinkering with small motors and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Read, Ashland, and Gena King and Lynda
Miller, both Medford; a brother, Glenn, Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Zelma Tucker, Pasco,
Wash.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a
brother, Lynn; and two great-grandchildren.

Clarence Black
The graveside service for Clarence Black will be
held Friday in the Clear Creek Cemetery, Grass Valley, Calif. Pastor Andy Owens will
officiate.
Mr. Black, 76, of Prospect, died Monday (May 4, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical
Center.

Valley, CA 95945.
He was born May 26, 1921, in Grass Valley, where he was a third-generation rancher.
On Feb. 5, 1977, in Reno, Nev., he married Alta Alston, who survives.
Mr. Black lived on his Grass Valley ranch on McCourtney Road until moving to the Rogue
Valley five years ago.
In the early 1970s, he worked for Benuzzi Construction.
Mr. Black enjoyed gardening and supplied his family and neighbors with vegetables.
Survivors include three daughters, Robynn Stearns, Prospect, Marilyn Seolas, Grass
Valley, and Karen Parker, Folsom, Calif.; a brother, Bruce, Grass Valley; two sisters,
Edna Seaman, Grass Valley, and Gladys Okinga, Rio Linda, Calif.; five grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Blum and Marian
Karbowski.

Merle Robertson
Merle Robertson, 87, of Medford, died Monday (May 4,
1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. A private service is planned.

She was born Merle Pharris on Aug. 29, 1910, in Roscoe, Texas.
On Nov. 12, 1933, in Cleburne, Texas, she married Robert Floyd Robertson, who died in
1979. Mr. Robertson was a Church of Christ minister and they lived in various Texas towns
in connection with their ministry.
After retirement, they moved to Maude, Ala., then to Medford in 1977.
Mrs. Robertson was a seamstress for many years.
She volunteered with the Foster Grandparents Program and the Chamber of Commerce
Visitors Center, and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include a son, Bob, Medford; a daughter, Joyce Marie Goode, Beaverton; five
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A son, James T.,
preceded her in death.

John Orland Rector
A memorial gathering for John Orland Rector will be
held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford. Pastor Edward Graham of Butte Creek
Baptist Church, Eagle Point, will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Rector, 72, of Medford, died Sunday (May 3, 1998) in Greensboro, N.C., while
traveling.

He was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Galeton, Colo., and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1939.
Mr. Rector graduated from Central Point High School in 1943.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
On Jan. 2, 1948, in Medford, he married Netta Rose Brown, who survives.
Mr. Rector was the powerhouse operator at Medford Corp. for 36 years, retiring in 1986.
He built his Medford home from the ground up.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Patricia Hilton, Beaverton; two
sisters, Leona Meyer, Central Point, and Carol Leonard, Carmichael, Calif.; seven
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank; and
a sister, Joann.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.
