report Go-kart racing season begins Friday WHITE CITY -- The first points race of the season for Outlaw Cage Kart Racing is Friday at Southern Oregon Speedway. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with races to start at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children ages 7-12 and free for children age 6 and younger. Pit passes are $10. Ashland Booster Club to meet on Wednesday ASHLAND -- The Ashland High School booster club meets Wednesday night in the school's English lecture hall. The budget committee meets at 6:30 p.m. with the general meeting to follow at 7 p.m. Club members, parents of Ashland athletes and fans are all invited to attend. The May Madness Slow-pitch Softball Tournament is scheduled for May 15-17 at Anderson River Park in Anderson, Calif. The entry fee is $135 and teams are guaranteed five games. Ashland Run to be held on May 23 ASHLAND -- The 23rd annual Ashland Run is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 23 at Hargadine and Fork streets. Registration is at 8:15 a.m. for the 4.8-mile race. Eagle Point wrestler Nelmes claims honor Eagle Point senior John Nelmes is one of 10 ASICS Oregon Wrestling Classic scholar/athletes for 1998. The three-time Southern Oregon Conference champion was a four-time placer at the Class 4A state tournament. He has won a state Greco-Roman championship and was a freestyle runner-up. He carries a 3.8 GPA. Free skating show Sunday at The RRRink A free Mother's Day figure skating exhibition is planned for Sunday at The RRRink, beginning at 1 p.m. A number of skaters are slated to perform, including Jeannie Chapman Reimonn -- who has competed in the World and European Championships. Former Soviet and world junior champion Elena Kruykova is also scheduled to compete. For more information, contact The RRRink at 770-1177. 3-on-3 hoop tourney slated for May 23-24 ASHLAND -- The seventh annual KOBI-Pepsi Shakespearean Slam 3-on-3 basketball tournament is May 23-24 at Southern Oregon University. The entry deadline is May 15 and teams that register before Friday are guaranteed entry. Entry forms are available at athletic retail stores around the Rogue Valley and at the parks and recreation departments of Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass. Entry fees are $78 per team for players entering grades three through eight, $84 for high school-age teams and $88 for adult teams.
