retirement complex

A $10 million retirement complex is proposed for construction on Golf View Drive in southeast Medford.

100-unit retirement center proposed

Anna Maria Creekside, a 100-unit retirement community, is scheduled to be under construction in southeast Medford by fall.

The $10 million apartment complex would be finished by July 1999, said Larry Horton. He and Ann Horton, along with Mike and Mary Mahar, are developing the project. The name is derived from Ann and Mary.

The Mahars own the 3.24-acre site adjacent to Larson Creek at 822 Golf View Drive. It's near the Rogue Valley Medical Center, doctors' offices and a shopping center to be built at North Phoenix and Barnett roads.

Horton said the three-level structure will be nearly identical to the 94-unit Horton Plaza at 1122 Spring St. in Medford. Project architect Ron Grimes has finished preliminary drawings and expects to have final drawings ready for review by the Medford Building Safety Department by June.

The developers said Steven W. Cox, head of Omega Management Group, has been selected as the managing agent because of his expertise and success with Horton and Fountain plazas. Horton developed and owns both centers.

The 132-unit Fountain Plaza at 1441 Morrow Road in Medford is full and there's a waiting list for vacancies in Horton Plaza, Horton said.

Ann Horton, an owner of Lawrence's Jewelers, and builder Mike Mahar have served together on the board of directors of the Chamber of Medford/Jackson County. Both families have long histories in real estate development and building in Southern Oregon.
