101 looks at police consolidation The reshaping of law enforcement in Jackson County will be the focus of the next program in County 101, a project to inform the public about Jackson County government. The program will start at 7 p.m. May 13 in the auditorium of the Courthouse, 10 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford. Panel members are Jackson County Sheriff Bob Kennedy, just-retired Medford Police Chief Ray Shipley, Oregon State Police Lt. Terry Simons, and Vic Sims, a criminology professor at Southern Oregon University. They will discuss how other communities have dealt with consolidation of law enforcement services, advantages and criticism, barriers, cooperative efforts among the agencies and next steps. A Q&A period will follow. Sponsors of the County 101 program are the League of Women Voters of the Rogue Valley, Jackson County Board of Commissioners and Southern Oregon University.
