Crater hitters stick it to Eagle Point, 13-5, 6-1

EAGLE POINT -- The Crater Comets used an offensive explosion and consistent pitching to sweep Eagle Point on Saturday.

The Comets scored eight runs in the fifth inning of their 13-5 Game 1 win and settled for a balanced offensive attack in the nightcap, 6-1.

"I compliment these kids for rebounding from last Saturday's loss to North," Crater coach Chuck Dominiak said. "In games in the past, we have left guys on base."

Not Saturday. In the opener, the Eagles led 3-2 going into the top of the fifth inning before the Comet offense struck.

Casey Campbell and P.J. Pardee each had two hits in an eight-run inning that set the tone for the rest of the day.

Campbell, who also pitched well enough for the win, went 3-for-4 in the first game while shortstop Craig knight went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Crater.

"Hitting is a contagious thing," Dominiak said. "One guy hits and another says `I can do that too."'

In the late game, Crater scored at least one run in four different innings and Comet pitcher Jake Stickley allowed just five hits and one run in seven innings.

"He's had some real clutch wins for us," Dominiak said, "and he came through again today."

Brent Foster went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Crater, which improved to 9-3 and remained in a second-place SOC tie with South Medford.
