ASHLAND - Nick Bakke's javelin throw of 191 feet, five inches, the fifth-best in the state this year, was the highlight of the Ashland boys' decisive 99-42 dual meet victory over Klamath Union in Southern Oregon Conference track and field action Thursday.

The Pelican girls, behind Robin Thomas' wins in the discus and javelin, beat the Grizzlies 77-70.

Bakke also won the shot put with a heave of 48. Ashland's Ryan Rackley posted winning efforts in the long jump (21-5) and triple jump (40-11). The Grizzlies also received a good mark in the 200 meters from Cy Aleman (22.41).

In the girls' portion of the meet, Ashland freshman Jackie Woods pulled off an unlikely double, winning the shot put (34-5) and the 400 (1:01.9).

Ashland's Deborah Lee won the triple jump (33-10) and the 100 (12.4).

ROSEBURG SWEEPS - At Eagle Point, Roseburg's girls won every event but two in posting an overwhelming victory in the SOC three-way meet.

Allison Bruns won three individual events (100, 200, long jump) and Erin Phillips added two victories (400, 300 hurdles) to help the Indians register 134 points. Eagle Point was second with 37 and Mazama had 19.

In boys, Roseburg totaled 82 points to 57 for runner-up Eagle Point. Mazama trailed with 39.

Mike Cory had three individual victories (100, 200, long jump) to spark the Indians.

John Lucas recorded a double for Eagle Point's boys with wins in the 1,500 and 3,000.
