DeManby to ink letter with Fresno St. today

By DON HUNT

Travis DeManby makes it official today when he signs his letter of intent to play basketball for Fresno State.

DeManby will sign the letter at a 2:30 p.m. ceremony in the Medford School District administration building, across from South Medford High.

The signing means that DeManby will get his schooling paid for - tuition, books and room and board - in exchange for playing basketball for the Bulldogs.

DeManby announced earlier this week he was headed to Fresno State on a full ride, but the signing letter didn't arrive in his mailbox until Thursday. Fresno State officials said they mailed it last Friday.

DeManby will now send the letter back to Fresno.

"I wasn't worried that anything had gone wrong," DeManby said. "I talked to one of their coaches Wednesday, and he assured me it was on its way. This just isn't something a school is going to lie about."

The 6-foot-4 DeManby, who will play shooting guard for Fresno State, led South Medford to a 25-3 record, the Southern Oregon Conference championship and a seventh-place finish at the Class 4A state tournament this past season.

Fresno State plays in the Western Athletic Conference and is coached by Jerry Tarkanian, the fifth-winningest active coach in major college basketball.
