Harry & David recalls candy over nut allergy

Medford-based Harry & David has announced a nationwide recall of boxes of chocolate that may contain peanuts or cashews, citing allergy concerns.

The fruit and chocolate company said the recall covers about 65 boxes of 6 oz. "Dark Chocolate Clusters The Ultimate Walnut Cherry Caramel Indulgence" that were sold since March 15.

The recalled chocolate is packaged in green-and-cream striped boxes, with a "best before" date of 07-11-23 printed in black ink below the nutrition facts section on the back of the box.

People allergic to peanuts or cashews could face a life-threatening reaction if they eat the chocolates. The company, which has received no reports of illness, advises anyone with health concerns to contact a doctor.

Customers who return the chocolates will receive a full refund.

The recall was initiated after it was determined that the product contained peanuts and cashews. Investigation into the cause is ongoing.
