TODAY

  • Kids in kindergarten and older, and adults, can join the Talented Feet Jump Rope Team for a morning of jump-roping from 9 to noon today at Talent Middle School, 102 Christian Ave., Talent. The $20 fee includes a single rope and a light snack. Call 778-6332.
  • The second Parent & Daughter Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Smullin Health Education Center, on the Rogue Valley Medical Center campus, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford. This is a day for 9- to 12-year-old girls to spend time with their parent or other caring adult. The event is free and doors open for registration and refreshments at 8:45 a.m. Activities begin with a teen theater performance, followed by a choice of three interactive group sessions on topics including puberty, nutrition, natural beauty, self-defense, hip-hop dance and theater games.   • Children with adult supervision are invited to take a free tour of the animal shelter from noon to 12:30 p.m. today at the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S. Pacific Highway, Phoenix.
  • Kids 8 and older and adults are invited to work together as a family to deploy a submarine, map the ocean, sample new sea life, recover archaeological artifacts, and design, build and program Lego robots to explore the world of oceanography. The "Under the Sea Family Lego Robotics" class will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at Campbell A on the Southern Oregon University Campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The fee is $48 per team.   • Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre will present its ninth annual dance concert at 7 p.m. today at South Medford High School Auditorium, 815 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford. Sixty dancers, including two adult groups, a youth performance company and student dancers age 6-18 will perform traditional folk dances from nine regions of Mexico. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for children 11 and under.
  • Portland's Teatro Milagro will present a production of "Frida, un retablo," about the life of artist Frida Kahlo, at 7 p.m. today in Phoenix High School's Rose Street Theatre, 745 N. Rose St., Phoenix. It's free. Call 535-1526 or see www.milagro.org.

SUNDAY

  • The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will hold its first-ever "Family Day" for kids 6 and up and an adult at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with a performance of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at the Angus Bowmer Theatre in Ashland. Tickets are $15 and include a pre-show introduction to the play at 12:30 p.m. in Carpenter Hall, as well as a post-show discussion and a chance to meet the actors. FRIDAY

  • A preschool puppet theater featuring Bucky Beaver and friends is held at 10:30 a.m. the second Friday of each month at North Mountain Park Nature Center, 620 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. A play time, snack and craft activity follow the puppet show. The puppet show and craft/snack is $5 per family, which includes two children, and $2 for each additional child.   • The Dr. Seuss books turn 50 this year. In honor of this birthday, St. Mary's School will be performing "Seussical directed by Jahnna Beecham." The hit musical weaves together the Dr. Seuss stories "Horton Hears a Who," "The Cat in the Hat," "Horton Hatches an Egg" and "Yertle the Turtle." Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Crater High Performing Arts Center. COMING UP

March 10: It's Family Saturday at The Schneider Museum of Art: 10-11 a.m.: Join Steve Berman as he shares "The Art of Story and Song," a rich tapestry of stories and songs for all ages. His performance is free. From 1-2:30 p.m. there is hands-on workshop on T-shirt painting. Explore painting with abstract designs, cartoons, word art, personal stamps and more. The cost is $5. Bring an old T-shirt or two to paint. Register by calling 552-6389.
