Top seed Pronesti wins opening match at Lithia Open

Top seed Matthew Pronesti of Medford derailed Eagle Point's Devin Bench in a quarterfinals match of the 3.5 singles division in opening-day action of the Lithia Motors Open at the Southern Oregon Tennis Club on Friday.

Pronesti posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory, while fellow Medford native and No. 2 seed John Buckley defeated Jacksonville's Max Goldman, 6-2, 6-1 in the men's 3.0 singles quarterfinal.

In the women's 4.0 singles quarterfinal, Southern Oregon University sophomore and second seed Erin Bruni beat teammate Rachael Malapit, 6-2, 6-1.

Other SOU winners included sophomores Mallory Byers and Sonia Aguilera, who flourished in the 4.0 quarterfinal and 4.0 round of 16, respectively.
