Merlin resident dies of gunshot wound

Sheriff's deputies are looking for the victim's roommate

The Josephine County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting death in Merlin and looking for one of the victim's roommates.

The sheriff's department didn't release a name or any other details about the dead person Wednesday.

Officials said they received a 9-1-1 call at 4:17 p.m. Tuesday from Eugene "Lee" Leroy Garrison, 61, who told dispatchers that he got home from work and found his roommate unconscious and possibly dead in a home they shared in the 4400 block of Quartz Creek Road, Merlin. Garrison works in Grants Pass, authorities said.

Deputies and emergency medical workers confirmed that Garrison's roommate was the victim of a fatal gunshot wound, and detectives were called.

Another roommate, Clifton Duane Campbell, 27, was gone and had been out of contact since earlier Tuesday afternoon, police said. Investigators are looking for Campbell.

Investigators ask anyone with information about Garrison, Campbell or Tuesday's shooting to call Detective Jim Mason of the Josephine County Sheriff's Office at 474-5135, Ext. 3522, or a sheriff's office tip line at 474-5160.
