Grant Pass men face jail for growing marijuana

Two Grants Pass men were sentenced to five years in federal prison for growing marijuana, officials said.

On Feb. 19, 2004, Robert Leen, 35, was found with nearly 1,200 pot plants growing on his property in Hugo. The plants were cultivated in three separate shipping containers, outfitted with grow lights. Detectives also found dried marijuana, scales, packaging material and a money-counting machine, according to U.S. Department of Justice officials.

Leen has 45 days to report to prison, where he'll spend 63 months without possibility of parole, said U.S. Attorney's Office spokeswoman Diane Peterson.

Also sentenced was Keith M. Huling, 34, for possession 800 pot plants. Detectives found his crop at his business, Highland Motor Sports, located at 4200 Highland Avenue in Grants Pass.

Police found the plants growing in multiple rooms throughout the business. They also found stolen property and 20 grow lights, officials said.

Huling has 90 days to report to prison, where he'll spend 60 months without possibility of parole, Peterson said.
