Neither driver injured in crash

Both vehicles, neither of which carried passengers, sustained major damage

Two drivers gave each other an emotional hug after escaping without injury from an accident that left both cars seriously damaged and southbound lanes of South Pacific Highway backed up for almost an hour.

Medford resident Brandy Maurer told Michael Watson, also of Medford, she hoped he was OK after the accident. Maurer and Watson were the vehicles' only occupants.

Watson, who thought Maurer should have received medical treatment, gave her a hug, telling her everything would be all right.

Bill Floyd, Oregon State Police trooper, cited Maurer after her red Chevrolet Nova pulled out into the northbound lanes and collided with the Dodge Strata owned by Watson.

"She pulled out in front of me from the (Roxy Ann) bowling alley," said Watson, who was on his way home from work.

Watson was not cited.

Watson said he was traveling along the road at 45 mph when Maurer's Nova appeared in front of him. The Strata sustained extensive damage to the front end, while the Nova was struck in the back door on the driver's side.

Maurer said she didn't really know what happened. She said she pulled out at the bowling alley when the accident occurred.

Floyd said neither driver wanted medical treatment, although Maurer appeared to have minor abrasions on her hand.
