ROGUE VALLEY SYMPHONY: Van Cliburn winner Roberto Plano will perform at the Rogue Valley Symphony's 2006-07 season opening concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland; 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. SPANISH GUITAR: Siskiyou Institute will sponsor Craig Einhorn performing guitar music of South America at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the Old Siskiyou Barn, Ashland. Tickets are $20. A student discount is available. Einhorn has a master's degree in classical guitar performance from Arizona State University and teaches guitar as adjunct faculty at Lane Community College, Eugene. He records music and has performed across the United States and has been the soloist with several orchestras. Einhorn will present a guitar master class/lecture at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. ANDY STEIN'S BLUE FOUR: Jackson County Community Concerts will open its 67th season with Andy Stein's Blue Four at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at South Medford High School Auditorium, 815 S. THE EARL BROTHERS: The Earl Brothers, a four-piece string band from Northern California, will perform original bluegrass music at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Williams Grange Hall, 20100 Williams Highway, Williams. MOUNT SHASTA FILM FESTIVAL: The third annual Mount Shasta International Film Festival will present a weekend of films from the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, and Asia Oct. 13-15, at the Coming Attractions Theatre in downtown Mount Shasta and at Ford Theater at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif.
GENTLE THUNDER: There will be an evening of live music by Gentle Thunder along with readings and photography by Eric Alan at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Hidden Springs Wellness Center, Ashland, 1651 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. - FAHRENHEIT 451: Ray Bradbury's adaptation of his classic novel "Fahrenheit 451" (the temperature at which paper ignites) tells the story of Guy Montag, a book-burning fireman who must choose between continuing his nonexistent existence and risking everything for the right to think. Previews are sold out. The show opens Friday, Oct. 6, and plays at 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 5. Tickets are $17. Reserved seats are an additional $2. - BUS STOP: William Inge's down-home drama plays in the New Theatre, directed by Libby Appel. When a group of passengers on the midnight bus to Topeka take refuge from a snowstorm at Grace's Diner, the locals and their guests get to know each other and themselves a little better. The play runs through Oct. 29.
- CYRANO DE BERGERAC: Anthony Burgess' translation of Edmond Rostand's romantic drama plays on the Elizabethan Stage, directed by Laird Williamson. The flamboyant poet, swordsman and wit Cyrano, convinced he is unworthy of being loved by the beautiful Roxane, pens love poems to her as if they came from the young suitor Christian. The play runs through Saturday, Oct. 7.
- DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE: David Edgar's adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novella, directed by Penny Metropulos, explores the results of Dr. Henry Jekyll's experiments that turn the murderous Mr. Edward Hyde loose to prey on the unwary people of London. The play runs through Oct. 28 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre.
- THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST: Directed by Peter Amster, Oscar Wilde's drawing-room play follows the antics of John Worthing and his friend Algernon Moncrieff as they fall in love with two young ladies who have their hearts set on marrying men named Earnest. In response, the two men engage in an elaborate deception featuring a fictional wayward brother and an imaginary invalid. The show runs through Oct. 28 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre.
- INTIMATE APPAREL: Directed by Timothy Bond, Lynn Nottage's play visits the world of Esther Mills, a hard-working, independent black seamstress in 1905 Manhattan who crafts exquisite undergarments for ladies. The play won five major awards, including the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for the Best Play of the 2003-04 Season. The show runs through Oct. 18 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre.
- KING JOHN: Directed by John Sipes, William Shakespeare's play explores the world of King John, whose reign was a mixture of craftiness and intrigue. The play runs through Oct. 29 in the New Theatre.
- THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR: William Shakespeare's comic romp directed by Andrew Tsao plays on the Elizabethan Stage. Falstaff is looking for love and money and tries to con two married ladies, mistresses Ford and Quickly, out of both. But Falstaff is outwitted and taught a few lessons. The play runs through Oct. 6 on the Elizabethan Stage.
- THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA: William Shakespeare's comedy directed by Bill Rauch plays on the Elizabethan Stage. Two young men, Proteus and Valentine, learn the pitfalls of thoughtless young love from a variety of sources — including a dog. The play runs through Oct. 8.
- THE WINTER'S TALE: Directed by Libby Appel, Shakespeare's play explores the consequences of the poisonous jealousy of King Leontes. Only the passage of time and the loss of some of his dearest loves can bring forgiveness and reunion. The show runs through Oct. 29 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre.

- ORPHANS: Lyle Kessler's dramatic play tells the story of two brothers — one a thief, the other a naive boy — whose lives change forever when a mysterious stranger enters their cloistered world. - DAWN CHORUS: The Playwright's Unit of Oregon Stage Works continues its readings of new American plays with a reading of "Dawn Chorus," by Richard Moeschl and directed by Geoffrey Blaisdell, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 10 - 11, at Oregon Stage Works. Tickets are $10 at the door.
