Sack races, pie-eating contests, treasure hunts, a diaper derby and a wife-and-husband wheelbarrow race are just a few of the fun-filled events taking place this weekend at the annual Jackson County Harvest Fair.
A schedule of events is available at www.jcfairgrounds.com. Here are a few of the highlights.
- Microbrew and wine tasting will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday in Padgham Pavilion.
- A tri-tip barbecue will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Saturday near Compton Arena.
- A chili cook-off will be held Saturday morning in Chaisson Park with public tasting to be held at 12:30 p.m. Teams may enter the cook-off by obtaining entry forms from the fairgrounds office, by calling 774-8270 or visiting www.jcfairgrounds.com.
- The Grape Stomp Championship will begin with preliminary heats at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, and noon and 2 p.m. Sunday. The winners of each heat will return for the championship stomp at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Call 774-8270 to register.
- Livestock shows will be held each day at the fair, and stock dogs will demonstrate livestock herding at 1 p.m. Saturday and noon and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
- Lawnmower races will be held throughout each day. The Parade of Power, featuring antique tractor pulls, will take place at noon Saturday and Sunday, and a classic car show will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday.
- Oregon Rain will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday on the outdoor Harvest Fair Stage. The Rogue Valley German Band will perform at 1 p.m. and the Beau Berry Band will perform at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
- Mountain Man Encampment, an outdoor survival exhibit, will be displayed through Saturday and Sunday.
- The Siskiyou Woodcrafters Guild will display handmade furniture and artwork and offer demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.
