Craterian Performances announces new seasonCraterian Performances will host a wide range of shows in its 2006-07 season, from Broadway star Bernadette Peters to "Aga-Boom," a family-oriented theatrical clown show. The Craterian's 10th season offers 22 shows and includes its traditional holiday offering of the Gingerbread Jubilee and "The Nutcracker" ballet in addition to several free community events. The season launches on Sept. 16 with a free community concert — "100 Years of Broadway" — by the Rogue Valley Chorale, which opened the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater's inaugural season in 1997. Among the season's most prominent performers is Peters, a screen and stage star who appears Feb. 10. She's the season's most expensive ticket at $77-$87. Musical offerings include a return visit from The Ten Tenors from Australia on Oct. 18 $28-$45. They sold out their last appearance at the Craterian in 2003. Grammy Award-winning Doc Severinsen, a 25-year music director of "The Tonight Show," brings his band Feb. 20 $52-$58. The longest-running solo show in Broadway history, "Defending the Caveman," comes to the Craterian on Feb. 17 $32-$38 to explore the gender gap through comedy. Savion Glover returns for "Classical Savion" on Sept. 21 $52-$58, combining an innovative tap style with classical and jazz music. Returning to the Craterian March 9 after a sold-out February 2002 performance, Ailey II $19-$33 will feature the New York-based troupe performing some of the top dance choreography in the U.S. This season's touring musicals include "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" on Dec. 8 $40-$58; "Jesus Christ Superstar" featuring Ted Neeley, who had the lead role in the 1973 movie on March 5 $40-$58; Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" on March 26-27 $40-$58; "Urban Cowboy: The Musical" on March 31 $30-$48; and "Hairspray" on May 27 $60-$78. The Craterian also presents Momix on Oct. 26 $23-$38, featuring acrobatic choreography, puppets and an array of sound and lighting effects in a new production called "Lunar Sea." "Aga-Boom" on March 17 $23-$38 combines theatrical clowning and audience participation. Entertainment for kids and families comes with a production based on Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka" on Nov. 1 $12-$17. The story is presented as musical theater by the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration on Tour. "Captain Louie" on Feb. 6 $12-$17 is a high-spirited musical based on the Ezra Jack Keats story "The Trip" and features original music by Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz. Pre-sale tickets to the Craterian's contributing members are processed June 6 - July 21. Memberships start with a $50 contribution in support of the theater's operations. Tickets go on sale to the general public July 25. The box office is at the theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford.
