Sheriffs Department seizes marijuana plants from area near Greenway
A routine air patrol of the Bear Creek Greenway area Thursday led to the seizure of 649 marijuana plants, the second largest this year, Jackson
County Sheriff Mike Winters said.
At around 6 p.m. a police helicopter was dispatched to the Greenway to search for transients, when the pilot spotted a row of marijuana plants running
along a tree line near milepost 26 on Interstate 5.
Winters and four sheriffs deputies arrived on the scene and cut down the plants and put them into evidence.
The plants were 2 feet tall and were planted near a mound of topsoil that is to be used for the future Medford sports park.
"Its a pretty nice bust, the second biggest this year. But its still early in the season," Winters said.
No suspects have been named. The case remains under investigation.
