Girl, 9, dies in rollover crash

ROGUE RIVER — A 9-year-old Central Point girl was killed Wednesday when a car rolled several times in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 48, police said.

Tiffany Lynne Hayes of Central Point died from injuries she suffered when she was ejected from a 1995 Suzuki Sidekick at 5:55 p.m. Hayes was taken by ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford where she was pronounced dead, Oregon State Police Lt. Tanya Henderson said.

For unknown reasons, the Suzuki’s driver, Elizabeth Marie Dauster, 34, of Eagle Point, swerved off the road. When she tried to correct the car it rolled over, Henderson said.

The vehicle was equipped with four seat belts. All four surviving passengers were wearing seat belts, Henderson said.

"If there had been another seatbelt, the child probably would have lived," Henderson said.

Dauster received minor injuries in the crash, as did the three other people in the car, police said.
