OSP forensic scientist talks Tuesday about the ‘Real CSI’

Oregon State Police forensic scientist Nici Wanek will give a talk on "Real CSI: Tales from a Crime Scene Analyst" at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Room 305 of the Hannon Library at Southern Oregon University, Ashland.

This is the second lecture in the "Mystery in the Libraries" series, sponsored by the Hannon Library, the Friends of Ashland Public Library, and the Ashland Mystery Readers Group.

Wanek has been a forensic scientist and anthropologist for the OSP Crime Laboratory for the past nine years. She is a case manager for high-profile cases, examining physical evidence from homicides and assaults, excavating clandestine grave sites and responding to crime scenes as an expert in bloodstain pattern interpretation and evidence evaluation.

Providing statewide training to law enforcement officials, she teaches recovery of skeletal remains, collection of DNA evidence, and determining human from non-human bones.

Wanek is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and a board member of the Northwest Association of Forensic Scientists.

The free program is open to the public and is suitable for adults.

For more information, phone Stephanie Roland at 552-6841.
