WESTERN BAPTIST 2, SOUTHERN OREGON 0 At Salem, the Southern Oregon women's soccer team had Cascade Conference South Division
championship hopes fade in a 2-nil loss at Western Baptist College Friday.
Junior forward Sarah Muri had a goal and assist as the first-place Warriors (8-3, 6-0 Cascade) dropped the Raiders (2-6-1, 2-3 Cascade) into third
place in the five-team divisional title chase.
The Warriors, who have won 12 of 13 meetings with the Ashland school, held SOU to two shots on goal and to only 10 for the game.
Southern Oregons best opportunity came early in the game when midfielder Kara Bradach rocketed a shot into the net only to have it
disallowed by a late offside call.
Western Baptist used the break to go on top at 18:24.
Muri had an initial shot blocked by a defender, then followed with another blast that Raider keeper Soo Lee knocked down but couldnt
control. Charissa Hunter was there to clean up for the 1-nil advantage.
The Raiders were unable to put together a solid offensive opportunity in the second half and WB got an insurance goal at 80:30. Megan Waunch launched a
pass to the middle from the right side and Muri outraced Lee to the ball. An open net followed to cap the scoring.
Kim Mendenhall recorded the shutout in goal for the Warriors and had two saves. Lee tallied five saves for the Raiders. WB held a 4-0 edge in corner
kicks.
