McGrorty signs contract with St. Louis Rams

Southern Oregon University football player Dusty McGrorty signed a free agent NFL contract with the St. Louis Rams on Sunday

McGrorty, who wasn’t selected in the seven-round NFL draft that concluded Sunday, inked a one-year deal worth $230,000 with a $3,000 signing bonus shortly after the draft’s conclusion.

McGrorty had received the most interest from the Rams and the Detroit Lions heading into the two-day draft weekend.

SOU wide receiver Andrae Thurman and punter Steve Baker, who were also expected to draw some interest from NFL teams, had yet to sign free-agent contracts as of press time.

McGrorty, a 6-foot, 228-pound tailback during his four years with the Raiders, leaves for the Rams minicamp in St. Louis on Wednesday. He is expected to compete for a tailback, fullback or special teams position.

The NAIA All-American from Warrenton set 10 school and eight regional records while at SOU. He finished with 5,414 career rushing yards, 75 rushing touchdowns and 474 points during his career.
