Champion soccer teams to be honored by Linebackers
The Medford Linebackers will honor the state championship boys soccer teams from South Medford and St. Marys at its meeting this week.
The group gathers at noon Friday at J.J. Norths Grand Buffet, 1016 N. Riverside.
Coaches Dave Potter of South Medford and Matt Faurot of St. Marys will speak, and seniors from the two teams will be on hand.
Football coach John Beck of North Medford, whose team is host to Bend in the Class 4A quarterfinal round at 7 p.m. Friday at Spiegelberg Stadium, will
also speak.
Cost for lunch is $7.50.
SOU netters earn honorsfor all-conference honors
Southern Oregon University capped off its dominant run through the regular volleyball season with three players earning all-Cascade Conference
accolades.
The Raiders (19-5), who won both the regular season and conference tournament titles, placed seniors Lindsey Aitchison and Kristina Matchett and
sophomore Jamie McCreary on the squad.
Matchett, an outside hitter, was named most valuable player for the second time after wrapping up the conferences kills title for the third time in
her career.
The Klamath Falls native is SOUs match (40), season (669) and career kill record holder with 2,141. She also boasts 44 career 20-kill-or-better
outings.
Aitchison, a 2002 regional all-star middle, is 69 kills away from becoming the third player in SOU history and first since 1995 to compile 1,000 kills
and at least 350 blocks.
McCreary, an outside hitter, finished the regular season as the loop leader for assists (12.01).
Kendra Mitchell, a former North Medford High standout and current Western Baptist junior, earned first-team honors for the Warriors.
Mitchell finished fifth in the conference in kills at 3.5 per game and was the Warriors third-best in blocks at .62 per outing. The 5-foot-10
middle blocker also earned an all-conference selection as a freshman with the University of Portland.
Albertsons Liz Mendiola was named coach of the year, while Western Baptists Kim Pitney earned freshman-of-the-year accolades and junior
teammate Jamie Ruda grabbed the Libero Award.
MacLauchlan once againchosen to all-star first team
FOREST GROVE Pacifics Jamie MacLauchlan, a senior from North Medford, hs been named to the Northwest Conference womens soccer all-star
team for the second consecutive year.
The defender became the first Boxer since Alana Chong, also a defender, to earn back-to-back first-team selections.
Pacific won a record 11 matches and scored a record 39 goals in 2003.
Since transferring to Pacific from Portland State in 2002, MacLauchlan has been a spark plug for the Boxers in every area of the field.
This year, she scored eight goals and had an assist while starting all 20 matches. Her offensive ledger was highlighted by a hat trick in the season
opener against the Savannah College of Art & Design and a late-season streak in which she scored in three straight matches.
