SOU netters earn honorsfor all-conference honors

Southern Oregon University capped off its dominant run through the regular volleyball season with three players earning all-Cascade Conference accolades.

The Raiders (19-5), who won both the regular season and conference tournament titles, placed seniors Lindsey Aitchison and Kristina Matchett and sophomore Jamie McCreary on the squad.

Matchett, an outside hitter, was named most valuable player for the second time after wrapping up the conference’s kills title for the third time in her career.

The Klamath Falls native is SOU’s match (40), season (669) and career kill record holder with 2,141. She also boasts 44 career 20-kill-or-better outings.

Aitchison, a 2002 regional all-star middle, is 69 kills away from becoming the third player in SOU history and first since 1995 to compile 1,000 kills and at least 350 blocks.

McCreary, an outside hitter, finished the regular season as the loop leader for assists (12.01).

Kendra Mitchell, a former North Medford High standout and current Western Baptist junior, earned first-team honors for the Warriors.

Mitchell finished fifth in the conference in kills at 3.5 per game and was the Warriors’ third-best in blocks at .62 per outing. The 5-foot-10 middle blocker also earned an all-conference selection as a freshman with the University of Portland.

Albertson’s Liz Mendiola was named coach of the year, while Western Baptist’s Kim Pitney earned freshman-of-the-year accolades and junior teammate Jamie Ruda grabbed the Libero Award.

MacLauchlan once againchosen to all-star first team

FOREST GROVE — Pacific’s Jamie MacLauchlan, a senior from North Medford, hs been named to the Northwest Conference women’s soccer all-star team for the second consecutive year.

The defender became the first Boxer since Alana Chong, also a defender, to earn back-to-back first-team selections.

Pacific won a record 11 matches and scored a record 39 goals in 2003.

Since transferring to Pacific from Portland State in 2002, MacLauchlan has been a spark plug for the Boxers in every area of the field.

This year, she scored eight goals and had an assist while starting all 20 matches. Her offensive ledger was highlighted by a hat trick in the season opener against the Savannah College of Art & Design and a late-season streak in which she scored in three straight matches.
