MAIL TRIBUNE > LOCAL > OBITUARIES Delbert Edward Cone The funeral service for Delbert Edward Cone will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Cone, 82, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Portland, OR 97219, or the Medford Senior Center, 510 E. Main St., Medford, OR 97504. He was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Ririe, Idaho, the 10th of 13 children of Samuel Edward and May Maggie (Rolfe) Cone. On Aug. 17, 1940, at his parents' home, he married Laurene Elizabeth Kerfoot, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley area in 1957 from Klamath Falls. Mr. Cone worked in the lumber mills for many years, earning his certification as a journeyman carpenter. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 1959, retiring in 1981. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a carpenter's mate with the Seabees aboard the USS Charles Carroll. For several years, Mr. Cone was a member of the Medford Eagles and Elks. Most recently he was a member of the Medford Senior Center. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Allen Ray, Federal Way, Wash.; a daughter, Gayla Cherie Eckis, Pendleton; two brothers, Luther, Sheridan, and Clifford, Garnerville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford. Kenneth R. Edwards The memorial service for Kenneth R. Edwards will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Mr. Edwards, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at his home. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504. He was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Salem, the son of William and Goldie Edwards. On Feb. 14, 1952, in Grants Pass, he married Almeda F. Vaughn, who survives. Mr. Edwards owned and operated Edwards Weather Stripping. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Edwards was a charter member of the Medford Regional Horseless Carriage Club and the Rogue Valley Old Timers Car Club. He collected and restored antique cars. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and raising small animals. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Lanora Meyer, Betty Ortman and Deborah Brockmiller, all Medford; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Friends may pay their respects from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Perl Funeral Home, Medford. Hannah Lavern Wilder The memorial service for Hannah Lavern Wilder will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Reese Creek Christian Center in Eagle Point. Rick Hake will officiate. Mrs. Wilder, 59, of Gold Hill, died Dec. 30, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Kennett, Mo. She moved to Prospect in 1955 and graduated from Prospect High School in 1960. On June 16, 1961, in Prospect, she married Vernon Lee Wilder, who survives. They lived in Prospect until 1972, when they moved to the Gold Hill area. Mrs. Wilder was a homemaker and a tax preparer in the Medford area. She enjoyed family gatherings, traveling and spoiling her grandchildren. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Daren L., Sams Valley; a daughter, Lisa Kay Adams, Eagle Point; two brothers, Marshal and Robert Mitchum, both Blythe, Calif.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Smith; her mother, Geneva Mitchum; a sister, Doran Darrohn; and a brother, Gene Smith. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford. Garry John Marchand The memorial service for Garry John Marchand will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Vince Vidlak will officiate. Mr. Marchand, 60, of Grants Pass, died Dec. 31, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 28, 1941, in Saskatchewan, Canada. His family moved to Azusa, Calif., when he was 12. On Aug. 29, 1962, in West Covina, Calif., he married Eadie Todd, who survives. He moved to Grants Pass in 1966 after his discharge from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Marchand worked for Stone Forest Plywood in Grants Pass until he was diagnosed with cancer in 1998. He served in the U.S. Air Force with the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing. Mr. Marchand enjoyed fishing, fast-pitch softball and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed ice skating and took his family on annual trips to Fish Lake. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Kelly, Tim and Marty, all Grants Pass; a daughter Emy Denney, Carson, Wash.; and four grandchildren. Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass. Joan Bournstein The memorial service for Joan Bournstein will be held later this year. A private cremation service was held at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland. Ms. Bournstein, 73, was struck by a motor vehicle on Dec. 20, 2001, while crossing East Main and First streets in Ashland. She died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Memorial contributions for the establishment of safer traffic controls at East Main and First streets may be made to the Joan E. Bournstein Memorial Fund, c/o Bank of America, Ashland Branch, 2305 Ashland St., Ashland, OR 97520. She was born April 20, 1928, in Denver, a daughter of Emmanuel and Estelle (Klausner) Drucker. On Dec. 28, 1948, at Hotel Utah, in Salt Lake City, she married Aaron Bournstein. They later divorced. Survivors include two daughters, Laura Schultz, Ashland, and Jan Elise Bournstein, Forest Hills, N.Y.; a son, David Michael, Missoula, Mont.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Ruth Kolker. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
