Challengers cruise to non-league victory Finishing what it started, the Cascade Christian girls basketball team pulled away from pesky Riddle in the fourth quarter for a 52-41 non-league win Saturday at Superior Gym in Medford. The Challengers (11-2 overall) jumped to a 16-3 edge through the first quarter, but the Irish closed to within 38-34 heading into the fourth quarter thanks to an 18-8 spurt in the third. Senior wing Whitney Brookins tallied eight of her team-high 16 points in the fourth to spur Cascade Christian. Senior wing Kristin Salamone chipped in 10 points for the Challengers. "We let 'em back in the game in the third quarter," Cascade Christian head coach Loren King said. "But then we took care of business in the fourth." Skyline A PROSPECT 45, HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 34 - At Prospect, senior guard Sarah Gordon accounted for 60 percent of Prospect's offense as the Cougars pulled out a Skyline A League South Division win. Gordon scored 27 points, 20 of which helped Prospect (8-2 overall, 1-1 Sky A) to a 28-12 advantage in the second half. Junior post Lacey Tallman supplemented Gordon's production with 14 points of her own. Hosanna Christian, which dropped to 1-1 in Sky A, was led by 12 points from post Nikki Serat. BUTTE FALLS 75, NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN 36 - At Butte Falls, Sarah Matthews scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Butte Falls to an easy Skyline A League win. Matthews poured in 17 points in the first half as the Loggers rolled to a 41-18 lead at the half. Cassy Bartel contributed 12 points and nine rebounds, while Brianna Smeltz added nine points and five assists. Butte Falls upped its mark to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
