Eugene E. Ley The funeral Mass for Eugene E. Ley will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Liam Carey will officiate. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will be at noon at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. Mr. Ley, 89, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Magdalene Home, P.O. Box 255, Medford, OR 97501-0015. He was born April 25, 1912, in Kendallville, Ind., the son of Edward C. and Mary E. (Weaver) Ley. He graduated from Kendallville High School, and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1949 from Indiana. On May 9, 1959, in Medford, he married Marion Winningham, who survives. Mr. Ley was a truck driver for Industrial Air and Gas before his retirement. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. Mr. Ley was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cracking walnuts. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Karen Wymer, Tacoma, Wash., and Bessie Davenport, Coos Bay; two sisters, Virginia Wilondek, Kendallville, Ind., and Peggy McMarrell, Eureka, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford. Elizabeth Ann Cottle The memorial service for Elizabeth Ann Cottle will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland. Mrs. Cottle, 76, of Ashland, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapter AC, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Tina Wallis Scholarship Fund, Treasurer Joan Whitset, 858 Cypress Point Loop, Ashland, OR 97520. She was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Grantville, Kan., a daughter of Ruth and Earl Morgan. In 1946, in Perry, Kan., she married Richard C. Cottle, who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1955. Mrs. Cottle was a member of Chapter AC, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, knitting and genealogy. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Rick and Morgan; a brother, Thomas; two sisters, Nancy and Harriet; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Judd, Betty Morgan, Phyllis Phillips, Martha Reddick and Evelyn Retter; and a brother, Fred Morgan. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Marshall Eugene Taylor The memorial service for Marshall Eugene Taylor will be at 1:30 p.m. today at McWilliams-Hope Chapel in Gallatin, Mo. Military rites will be performed by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2172, Gallatin, Mo. Interment will be in Kidder Cemetery, Kidder, Mo. Mr. Taylor, 77, of Gallatin, Mo., formerly of Medford and Eagle Point, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo. He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Beatrice, Neb. Mr. Taylor joined the military when he was 18. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in an anti-aircraft artillery automatic weapons battalion in the Philippines and New Guinea. From 1950 to 1955, he served as a cook apprentice in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and then as a firefighter in Turkey. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving at Homestead Air Force Base until his discharge in 1957. Between his tours of military service, he worked as a roofer and apartment maintenance supervisor. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1980 to 1984, and from 1986 to 1997. Mr. Taylor enjoyed his country, military life, football and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Bud Mast and Guy Mast, both Medford; two daughters, Tammy VerValin, Medford, and Sharon McKee, Gallatin, Mo.; two brothers, LeRoy and Ronnie, both Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Kathryn Miller, Lincoln, Neb., and Janet Wheiling, Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Rosenzweig, 37, of Lake Oswego, formerly of Sams Valley, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at his parents' home in Sams Valley. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Brain Tumor Foundation, 785 Market St., Suite 1600, San Francisco, CA 94103. He was born March 4, 1964, in Whittier, Calif., and moved to Sams Valley in 1969 from California. He was a 1982 graduate of Crater High School, and a graduate of Oregon State University. He then lived in Lake Oswego. Mr. Rosenzweig was a branch manager for Trugreen Landcare in Portland. Survivors include his parents, Roland and Frances (Losa) Rosenzweig, Sams Valley; a brother, Mark, Sams Valley; and a sister, Lisa McMillan, Elkton. Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point. John 'Paul' Clement The memorial service for John "Paul" Clement will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Medford Neighborhood Church. Pastor Lee Gregory will officiate. Mr. Clement, 70, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Portland Providence Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elders Fund, Medford Neighborhood Church, 1819 W. Stewart Ave., Medford, OR 97501. He was born April 4, 1931, in Rush Springs, Okla. On Jan. 17, 1958, in Reno, Nev., he married Clara Jean Krein, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971. Mr. Clement was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed reading the Bible and was a member of the Men's Bible Study Group at Medford Neighborhood Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Allen Perry, Eagle Point; four daughters, Carol Krueger, Central Point, Pauline Merit, Portland, Sylvia Johnston, Reno, Nev., and Lani Kellenhals, Las Vegas.; two sisters, Cora Riddle, Mobile, Okla., and Sarah Boston, Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Grenell will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kan. Mrs. Grenell, 58, of Eagle Point, died Oct. 17, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 23, 1943, in Rochester, N.Y., the daughter of William Orlin and Maurine Hazel (Grant) Kenyon. She received a master's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin. In 1968, in Rochester, N.Y., she married Norman C. Grenell, who survives. Mrs. Grenell was a journalist and homemaker. She began her career in journalism as an editor for the American Journal of Home Economics in Washington, D.C. She also worked as a freelance journalist in Washington, D.C., Seattle, Portland and Grants Pass. She enjoyed working in journalism and spending time with her family. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two brothers, Charles S. Kenyon, Rochester, N.Y., and William G. Kenyon, Wilmington, Del. She was preceded in death by her parents. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford. Clara Lucille McKinstry Clara Lucille McKinstry, 93, of Ashland, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif. She was born Aug. 6, 1908, in Paducah, Texas, a daughter of Clyde T. and Julia I. (Bettis) Chalk. In 1920, she moved with her family to California from San Antonio, Texas. On Dec. 16, 1930, in Los Angeles, she married John Irwin McKinstry, who died in 1986. Mrs. McKinstry was a dancer with several stage revues prior to her marriage. In later years, she received a bachelor's degree in the arts from California State University, Los Angeles. She moved to Ashland in 1976. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Ashland Chapter. Survivors include a daughter, Mickey Bruner, Medford; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister. Helen L. Irwin. Berninghausen will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland. Mrs. Berninghausen, 78, of Ashland, died Oct. 17, 2001, at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Senior High School, 201 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland, OR 97520, or to a favorite charity. She was born Jan. 4, 1923 in Minneapolis, a daughter of John Delbert and Ida Victoria (Larson) Bemis. In November 1944, in Rapid City, S.D., she married Richard George Berninghausen, who died in 1994. Mrs. Berninghausen served in the Women's Air Corps. She worked as a secretary for the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland, and as a receptionist/bookkeeper for Dr. J. R. Reynolds until her retirement. She was an active member of Ashland's First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. She and her husband served with the Tudor Guild for many years. She also volunteered with the Ashland Public Schools from 1953 into the 1990s, and was designated an honorary Ashland High School alumna. Mrs. Berninghausen was an ardent Grizzly, Trailblazer, Mariner and Minnesota Viking fan, and was enjoying the American League baseball playoffs at the time of her death. Survivors include three sons, Harold, Ashland, Bill, Gresham, and Tom, Wilsonville; a daughter, Marla Deere, Shoreline, Wash.; a sister, Dorothy Antil, Minneapolis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland. Rosa A. DeVore Rosa A. DeVore, 96, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at an adult care home. No service is planned. She was born Rosa Angela Clifford on May 10, 1905, in Denver. She grew up in Billings, Mont., where she graduated from high school. In 1924, in Denver, she married Amos Franklin DeVore, who died in 1978. They moved to Oregon in the 1930s, and settled in Ashland. They moved to Medford in 1950. Mrs. DeVore was a teacher in a one-room school with eight grades in rural Colorado. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Pierson, Medford, Kay Armstrong, Roseburg, and Norma Cammarn, Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Glen, Bremerton, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Phyllis Adams and Jean DeVore. Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Services, Inc.
