Thomas Matthew Butlak Thomas Matthew Butlak, 52, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) at Ashland Community Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date. He was born June, 20, 1949, in Ontario, Calif., a son of Matthew and Mary Kathleen Butlak. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Hawaii. Mr. Butlak was a plumber, working in construction with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local No. 290. He enjoyed surfing, art, fishing and his friends. Survivors include his father, Matthew Butlack, Eagle Point; a brother, John, Eagle Point; and a sister, Kathie Brooks, Medford. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1993. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford Doris Jean Clower The memorial service for Doris Jean Clower will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Road, Medford. Joe Barrett will officiate. Mrs. Clower, 64, of Phoenix, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite No. 140, Portland, OR 97319-5418. She was born June 11, 1947, in Hood River, a daughter of Henry Otto and Gerda Maesse. In April 1970, in Reno, she married Woodrow H. Clower, who preceded her in death. She lived in the Rogue Valley most of her life, moving here from Brookings. Mrs. Clower graduated from Phoenix High School and attended Southern Oregon College. She worked in commercial fishing on the Oregon Coast and in logging. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Clower enjoyed fishing, reading and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include five daughters, Teresa Hoglen, Phoenix, Julia Tryon, Trail, Linda Thomas and Jana Ritz, both of Brookings, and Lori Johnson, Comfort, Texas; her mother, Gerda Maesse, Phoenix; a brother, Richard Maesse, Phoenix; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Nancy Riggert. Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford. Gordon Leonard Mathews The memorial service for Gordon Leonard Mathews will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Sharon Smith will officiate. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Fleming, N.Y. Mr. Mathews, 77, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Laurel Hill Nursing Center. He was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Schenectady, N.Y. He moved to Grants Pass in 1996 from Auburn, New York. Mr. Mathews served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He worked as an electromechanical engineer for General Electric, and traveled throughout the world designing and setting up production lines for semi conductors and integrated circuits. Mr. Mathews was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Grants Pass and a past member of the American Legion in Grants Pass. He was a Boy Scout scoutmaster and a volunteer firefighter in New York. Survivors include a son, Michael, Sunnyvale, Calif.; two daughters, Laurie Wilhelm, Grants Pass, and Cherice Doll, Wolf Creek; and five grandchildren. Kurt Allan Babel The memorial service for Kurt Allan Babel will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Coyote Evans Park, Rogue River. Mr. Babel, 42, of Rogue River, died Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2001) in Butte Falls. He was born Feb. 4, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio. On Feb. 13, 1997, in Gold Hill, he married Peggy Rigel, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 15 years ago from Huntington Beach, Calif. Mr. Babel worked for Coleman Well Drilling in Grants Pass. He enjoyed spending time with his son, hunting, fishing and wood cutting. Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Wes Lee, Rogue River; his father, Henry, Huntington Beach, Calif.; his mother, Joyce Babel, Newport Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Lisa Ruegg, Chatsworth, Calif., and Karen Babel, Milwaukee, Wis.; two brothers, Paul, Aliso Viego, Calif., and Todd, Van Nuys, Calif.; a stepsister, Michiko Babel, and a stepbrother, Takashi "James" Babel, both of Huntington, Calif. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors. Terry Ralph Moore The memorial service for Terry Ralph Moore will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hugo Community Church. Pastor Terry Isabell will officiate. Mr. Moore, 50, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) in Grants Pass. Memorial contributions may be made to Hugo Community Church, 709 S.W. Cypress St., Grants Pass, OR 97526. He was born Nov. 5, 1950, in Ventura, Calif., a son of Carl Ralph and Irma Mae (DeVine) Moore. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Ventura. In 1996, he moved to Hugo, and in April 2001 to Grants Pass. Mr. Moore was a 1968 graduate of Medford Senior High and he attended Southern Oregon College. He was a member of the Thespian Club, and attended Hugo Church. Mr. Moore enjoyed reading his Bible, sharing with others, the outdoors, and he was an avid artist during high school, designing the year book cover in 1968. Survivors include his mother, Irma, Medford; a brother, Stan, Medford, and a sister, Mary Conrad, Portland. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl, and three brothers. Larry Blight will officiate, Mr. Parsons, 87, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) in Medford. He was born on March 13, 1914, in Mexico, Mo., a son of George and Hila (Finuf) Parsons. On Sept. 4, 1938, in Amarillo, Texas, he married Claudia McDuff, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from Tulelake, Calif., where he homesteaded in 1949. Mr. Parsons served in the U.S. Navy. He was a farmer and rancher in the Tulelake area, raising cattle, alfalfa and grain. Mr. Parsons served on the Tulelake School Board, the Tulelake Irrigation District Board, and served as president of the Tulelake Grain Growers. He was a member of the Tulelake Presbyterian Church. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Kay Fish, Medford, and Charlotte Schmitt, Glendora, Calif..; a son Kenneth, Medford; four brothers, Frank, Davis, Calif., Ken, Carrollton, Mo., John, Columbus, Ohio, and Stan, Manhattan, Kan.; four sisters, Jocelyn Peterson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Margaret Stumpff, DeSoto, Kan., Virginia Layton, Pittsburgh, Pa., Barbara Marshall, Bellefonte, Pa.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Lori Ann ‘Singley’ Thomas The memorial service for Lori Ann "Singley" Thomas will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford. The Rev. Alan W. Jackson will officiate. Mrs. Thomas, 26, of Medford died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Advocacy Center, 816 W. 10th St., Medford, OR 97501. She was born Nov. 6, 1974, in Medford. On May 27, 2000, in Medford, she married Trent E. Thomas, who survives. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life. Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of North Medford High School. She worked in child development. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a member of Pi Beta Phi. She enjoyed frogs, outdoor activities, children and crafts. Survivors in addition to her husband include her mother, Mary Carol Singley, Medford; and a brother, Matthew Singley, Portland. She was preceded in death by a son, Coda Wayne Singley in 1999, and by her father, Wayne W. Singley in 1993. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, OSU Acacia Fraternity and an active member of the Rogue Valley Shuffleboard League, serving as president for many years.
