Eva Mae Helms

The memorial service for Eva Mae Helms will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Helms, 76, of Medford, died Friday (June 8, 2001) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacksonville Senior Center, 175 S. Oregon St., Jacksonville, OR 97530, or the Kidney Foundation, 3330 N.W. Yeon, Portland, OR 97210.

She was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Anna (Spator) Pavel. On Nov. 17, 1962, in Williams, Calif., she married Silvin C. Helms, who died in 1989. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from Hayward, Calif.

Mrs. Helms was the site manager for Loaves and Fishes senior program. She retired in 1998.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan Balderas, Medford, Marchia Turner, Sacramento, Calif., and Emary Smith, Woodland, Calif.; three sons, Martin Lane, Boise, Idaho, Burton Lane, Iowa Hill, Calif., and Ernest Lane, Woodland, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

 

Lawrence E. Lenzi

A private service is planned for Lawrence E. Lenzi, 51, of White City.

He was born Aug. 13, 1949, in Chicago, a son of William George and Mary Elizabeth (Shinnick) Lenzi. He graduated from high school. On June 2, 1998, in Medford, he married Marlo Schneider, who survives.

Mr. Lenzi was a welder.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Lenzi enjoyed camping, hiking and traveling in the wilderness.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include many family members.

Clyde L. Martin

Clyde L. Martin, 80, of Ashland, died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at Ashland Community Hospital. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 3039 Hanley Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Newkirk, Okla., the son of Albert and Grace (Scott) Martin. He attended schools and graduated in El Monte, Calif. On Nov. 2, 1941, in San Gabriel, Calif., he married Cynthia Lovejoy, who survives.

Mr. Martin was a mixer truck driver in California until his retirement in 1978.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard with USCG LST 67 (Guinea Pig) during World War II.

Mr. Martin devoted much of his time to the Boy Scouts of America and attained the Silver Beaver, Grange and Master ranks in Ashland Troop No. 759.

He enjoyed rock hunting and flowers and belonged to Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Inc. in Central Point.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, James, Scott and Ted, all Ashland; a daughter, Lea Ann Martin, Temple City, Calif.; three sisters, Dorothy, Lea and May, all Renton, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Glenn.

Wallace Lynn Whalen

The graveside service for Wallace Lynn Whalen will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Wayne Bell will officiate.

Mr. Whalen, 54, of White City, died May 27, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City.

He was born Aug. 25, 1946, in Lexington, Ky., a son of Wallace and Myrtle Emery Whalen. He had lived in the Rogue Valley for a number of years.

Mr. Whalen was a truck driver.

Survivors include his mother, Myrtle Kendall, Lexington, Ky.; and a brother, David Kendall, Gilbert, Ariz.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

 

Estelle West-Greene

Estelle West-Greene, 85, of Medford, formerly of Roseburg and Strunk, Ky., died June 3, 2001, at Rogue Valley Medical Center after a short stay. The funeral service was held June 7 at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg. Pastor Roger Crabtree officiated. Interment was in Roseburg Memorial Gardens.

She was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Scott County, Tenn., the daughter of Jeremiah "Jerry" and Susie Hamby West. On April 20, 1930, in Strunk, Ky., she married Estil C. Greene, who died in 1998. They lived in Kentucky until 1951, when they moved the family to Oregon. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998.

Mrs. West-Greene was a homemaker, and worked in home health and child care for many years.

She was a lifelong member of the Mount Pleasant United Baptist Church in Strunk, Ky.

During her 26 years of retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Ohio and Kentucky, the outdoors, cooking southern style and family gatherings.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Greene-Martin, Medford, and Thelma Greene-Murphy, Harrison, Ohio; three sons, Pastor Raymond Greene, Yoncalla, Ralph Greene, Roseburg, and Dorsey Greene, Keizer; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg.

 

Georgia M. Mugg

The graveside service for Georgia M. Mugg will be at 2 p.m. Monday (June 11, 2001) at Riverview Cemetery in Portland.

Mrs. Mugg, 69, of Medford, died Friday at her home.

She was born Georgia M. Hogan on Sept. 28, 1931, in Los Angeles. On Feb. 14, 1963, in Piedmont, Calif., she married Arthur B. Mugg, who survives.

She worked for a number of years as a secretary for Hughes Aircraft.

The Muggs moved to the Rogue Valley from Hayden Lake, Idaho, in 1993.

Mrs. Mugg was a charter member of Bahari, a Shriners women's organziation. She enjoyed reading and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Loraine Mugg, Laguna Hills, Calif., and Denice Mugg, Portland; two sons, Terrence Mugg, Medford, and Lawrence Mugg, Richardson, Texas; a brother; four sisters; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home of Medford.

 

R.C. Kinney Jr.

The memorial service for R.C. Kinney Jr. will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel, with inurnment at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Rev. Kelly Thompson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate.

Mr. Kinney, 64, of Medford, died Friday at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR, 97501.

He was born April 2, 1937, in Charleston, Mo., a son of Rube and Irene Kinney. The family moved to Medford in 1941.

On July 29, 1977, in Reno, Nev., he married Carla Misenhimer, who survives.

Mr. Kinney worked at the Riverside Car Mart, ran Kinney Custom Pinting and owned the Timber Inn at Rocky Point. He retired in 1993.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association and local Eagles and Moose lodges.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Willie Fisher, Beaver Creek, George Kinney, Clackamas, and Dan Fisher, Seattle, Wash.; three daughters, Linda Archuletta, Medford, Terri Young, Tualatin, and Debi Crutchfield, Bremerton, Wash.; five brothers, Bennie, Harold, Gerald, Frank and Richard; a sister, Jeanine Coffman; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack, and a daughter, Debbie Edmondson.

Arrangements: Hillcreast Mortuary, Medford.

 

Pauline B. Holtrop

Pauline B. Holtrop, of Medford, died Saturday (June 9, 2001) at Rogue Valley Manor in Medford. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

 

Robert L. Vonderhellen

Robert L. Vonderhellen, 80, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (June 9, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

 

Simon H. Cowan

Simon Howard Cowan, 82, of Central Point, died Friday (June 8, 2001) at his home. Arrangements will be announced by Abbey Funeral.

 

Jean Irene Ward

Jean Irene Ward, 80, of Medford, died Saturday (June 9, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.
