Convention delegates to be picked

Oregon's 2nd Congressional District will send six delegates and one alternate to the Democratic National Convention Aug. 14-17 in Los Angeles.

To become a delegate, candidates must have been registered as Democrats for six months prior to the May 16 primary election. The candidate also must submit a Democratic Party of Oregon statement of candidacy.

Democrats in all five of Oregon's congressional districts will hold conventions on June 18, where most of the Oregon's delegation will be elected. The remainder of delegates will be elected at a state convention on June 24.

In all, there will be 58 delegates and eight alternates from Oregon.

The 2nd District Convention will be held 11 a.m. June 18 at Pendleton City Hall. The second district roughly covers most of eastern and southern Oregon.

Statement of candidacy forms are available from the Democratic Party of Oregon (503) 224-8200; the 2nd District Democrats (541) 963-1747; or from the any county Democratic Party.
