William Earl DeBoard

The graveside service for William Earl DeBoard will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Malin Community Cemetery in Malin. Pastor Jim Twamly of the Klamath Falls Assembly of God will officiate.

Mr. DeBoard, 90, of Medford, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God, 1225 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born June 11, 1910, in Hayward, Okla.

On Jan. 6, 1937, in Caddo, Okla., he married Laura Lee Johnson, who survives.

Mr. DeBoard was a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for Caddo County in Oklahoma. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Oklahoma.

He enjoyed horses, fishing and tinkering.

Mr. DeBoard was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Medford.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Lee DeBoard, Medford. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Clara Bell Fryrear

The graveside service for Clara Bell Fryrear will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor C.J. McPhail of Table Rock Fellowship in Medford will officiate.

Mrs. Fryrear, 88, of Medford, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, where she had lived for the past five years.

She was born Clara Bell Hayhurst on June 29, 1912, in Rising City, Neb.

She married Wayne Morgan, who preceded her in death.

She then married Sterling Fryrear, who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Fryrear was a self-taught school teacher in Wheatland, Wyo. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948 from Vancouver, Wash.

In the Rogue Valley, she worked at Parsons Pine Products, Bear Creek Packing and Rogue River Packing.

She was past master of Bellview Grange No. 759, where she was a member of the Barber Shop Quartet. She was also a life member of the Ashland Elks Lodge.

Mrs. Fryrear enjoyed socializing.

Survivors include two sons, Buck Morgan, Medford, and Richard Morgan, Central Point; a daughter, Bonnie Leacock, in Washington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dick Harris Taylor

Dick Harris Taylor, 85, of Rogue River, died July 19, 2000, in Springfield. Interment was at Eagle Point National Cemetery on July 24.

He was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Victorville, Calif.

On July 30, 1947, in Provo, Utah, he married Anna Mae Patterson, who survives. He moved to Rogue River in 1959 from California.

Mr. Taylor was a carpenter. He retired in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1947.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Rogue River Veterans of Foreign Wars and Color Guard. As a member, he participated in Rogue River’s Annual Rooster Crow parade.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos and taking his grandchildren camping.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, James Hill, Oxaca, Mexico; two daughters, Betty Ann Reed, Eugene, and Linda Williams, Scappoose; a brother, Robert, Anderson, Calif.; a sister, Betty Erickson, Raleigh, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyliss Severson.

Jay T. Blount

Jay T. Blount, 74, of Smith River, Calif., died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Abbey Funeral, Medford.

 

Richard ‘Dick’ E. Marsh

Richard "Dick" Earle Marsh, 86, of Medford, died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at Hearthstone. No service is planned. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born July 9, 1914, in Douglas, Wyo.

On June 2, 1941, in Reno, Nev., he married Neva M. Caldwell, who survives.

During World War II, he was employed at Ryan Aeronautical in San Diego, and worked on the first jet that was manufactured.

Mr. Marsh owned and operated R.E. Marsh Building Contractor, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of the Medford Elks, the Exchange Club and the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two brothers, George F. and Vern, both El Cajon, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, Burt.

James Loy Thomas

The memorial service for James Loy Thomas will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka, Calif.

Mr. Thomas, 83, of Yreka, Calif., died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Nutrition Program, c/o Yreka Community Center, 810 N. Oregon St., Yreka, CA 96097.

He was born May 6, 1917, in Medford, a son of George and Blanche Thomas.

Mr. Thomas worked for Cal Trans in Yreka, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Thomas was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Public Employees Retirement System (P.E.R.S) through Cal Trans. He worked as a volunteer for the Seniors Program in Yreka, and delivered firewood to seniors.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise M. Thomas; a daughter, Patricia Thomas; stepchildren, Edna Rizzardo, James O. Silva, Mary A. Cummins, Raymond A. Silva, Jan Reynolds and Judy Chelsea Stryker; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 32 step-great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Gary Lynn Stamp

The chapel service for Gary Lynn Stamp will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel in Medford.

Mr. Stamp, 38, of Ashland, died Friday (July 28, 2000) in Eagle Point.

He was born July 4, 1962, in Sacramento, Calif., a son of Gilbert L. and Phyllis L. Stamp.

On Aug. 5, 1985, in York County, S. C., he married Stormy Veazie, who survives. He moved to Ashland four months ago from Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Stamp was a tow truck driver for Dick’s Towing in Medford.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gregory, Boone, N.C.; two daughters, Brittany Givens and Anna Stamp, both Ashland; his mother, Phyllis L. Stamp, Bothell, Wash.; a brother, Terry E., Lodi, Calif.; and a sister, Debra Harmon, Santee, Calif.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford.

 

Juan Avalos Porras

The funeral Mass for Juan Avalos Porras will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.

Mr. Porras, 79, of Medford, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Anthony, N.M.

On Dec. 27, 1952, in Los Angeles, he married Laverta M. Franklin, who survives.

Mr. Porras served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. After retiring from the service, he worked for the Long Beach Naval Shipyards. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Whittier, Calif.

He was a member of the Medford Moose Lodge.

Mr. Porras enjoyed bowling and woodcrafts.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Juan Arnet, Creighton, Mo.; two daughters, Teresa Hadath, Talent, and Brenda Page, Whittier, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford.

 

Ethel Elizabeth Douglass

The memorial service for Ethel Elizabeth "Betty" Douglass will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Shasta Memorial Chapel in Mount Shasta, Calif. The Rev. Tom Brackney, of Mount Shasta Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Shasta Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Manor Health Services Clinic, 1200 Mira Mar Ave., Medford 97504.

Mrs. Douglass, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (July 27, 2000) at Rogue Valley Manor.

She was born Ethel Elizabeth Noah on May 12, 1912, in Seattle. In 1934 she married William A. Douglass, and the two of them moved to Mount Shasta, where they owned a ranch and raised race horses.

They founded the Mount Shasta Horsemen club and held rodeos on their ranch. Her husband died in 1965.

In 1982, she moved to the Rogue Valley Manor. She played the organ for church services at Three Fountains Nursing Home.

Mrs. Douglass was a member of the Mount Shasta Methodist Church and attended Applegate Christian Fellowship. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She enjoyed riding horses, painting, traveling and hooking rugs.

She is survived by her son, William C. Douglass, of Seattle; a stepdaughter, Fern Noah, of Grants Pass; a brother, Fred Noah, of Grants Pass; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Shasta Memorial Chapel.

 

Lorraine Mae Metz

Lorraine Mae Metz, 71, of Grants Pass, died Monday (July 31, 2000) at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. Arrangements will be announced by Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

 

Dean L. Welch

Dean L. Welch, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

 

Maxine Janzen

Maxine Janzen, 81, of Central Point, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

 

Jessie Rayburn

Jessie Rayburn, 84, of Applegate, died Saturday (July 29, 2000) as a result of an automobile accident. Arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
